About Eugene, Oregon

Located along the Willamette River and nestled between the rugged Oregon Coast Range and the breathtaking Cascade Mountains, Eugene is a picture book of scenic vistas. From its miles of biking and walking paths, to its tree-lines streets and historic homes, Eugene fills the senses with the natural beauty that is the signature of the great northwest.

It is also a city proud of its innovative character. Businesses like Nike and programs like "Cans for Carriers who Care" have grown from local traditions to national institutions. Since the mid 1980s the Eugene 4-J school system has offered language immersion programs in French, Spanish and Japanese - an idea only now beginning to find its way into mainstream education. Currently, we are a city in the forefront of environmental awareness, protection of habitat and undeveloped land, and devotion to sustainable living.

The University of Oregon makes its home in Eugene and offers to the community lectures, classes, entertainment, and an extensive library. For sports fans, the state-of-the-art Autzen Stadium is the home field for the Pac 10 University of Oregon Ducks. Eugene is also home to one of the finest performing arts centers in the northwest, and in more intimate venues offers a rich nightlife of live theatre, dance and music (boasting world-class jazz). The myriad art galleries showcase the extraordinary fine arts created here, and our Saturday market is host to an impressive array of crafts, food, music and our local farm fresh produce.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find Eugene to be the perfect hub to skiing, hiking, camping, and soaking in the natural hot springs, all within a two-hour radius of the city. The big city life of Portland is just a short two-hour drive north on the I-5, and the Eugene Airport easily connects us to anywhere in the world.

Eugene offers a complex mix of city and town, of innovation and tradition, of exertion and relaxation. It is a city hard to get out of your thoughts once you have been here.
