Executive Management

The ORCAS executive management  has extensive experience founding, growing, and selling companies in the healthcare industry. They have successfully introduced innovative, high quality products into the complex environment of healthcare companies. They also have strong existing relationships with the healthcare and technology industries.

Michael Mulvihill, CEO,  is transitioning ORCAS to an aggressive, customer-centric company in a changing and complex market. Prior to his leadership role at ORCAS, Michael was President and CEO of Leade Health, which he founded in 1990. Michael developed Leade Health into a nationally recognized disease prevention and health-coaching firm. Ceridian recognized the value and strength of what the management team built and acquired Leade Health in 2006.

Theresa Mulvihill, COO/Product Development, has 25 years of experience in executive management, product development and strategy, operations, quality oversight, and consulting in the health promotion/wellness industry. Prior to joining ORCAS, Theresa was executive vice president at Leade Health, Inc., and was a key contributor to the strategic redirection of the company as chief architect of health programs and product development. Theresa has extensive experience managing complex high profile clients.

Dr. Dennis Ary, Founder and CSO (Chief Science Officer),  co-founded the Oregon Center for Applied Science (ORCAS).  Dr. Ary was the principal responsible for procuring grants from the National Institutes of Health ($60 million) over the last 23 years. He has served for 7 years as the Science Director at ORCAS or more recently for 2 years as the Chief Science Officer.

John Burke, Chief Strategy Officer, is President of Burke Consulting, an international consulting practice providing business development and strategic positioning services for vendors of EAP, work/life, and general and behavioral health services. John is involved in merger and acquisitions activity and the development of strategic business relationships. John serves on the boards of ORCAS, Empathia, Connect Assist, the Employee Assistance Research Foundation and Rockin’ the Rage.

Chris Swain, Technology Advisor and board member, is a game executive, startup founder, and former USC professor, leading the
development of 20+ award-winning games and products for companies that include Disney, Microsoft, Sony, Acclaim, Activision, BBC, Discovery, Children’s Television Workshop, and many others.

Dennis Ary, PhD
Dennis Ary is a research scientist and Chief Science Officer at ORCAS.

Dr. Dennis Ary co-founded ORCAS in 1989. He has 30 years of experience in research and development of technology-based health behavior change programs. He provides expertise in theory-based behavior change, research methodology, and statistical analysis to all of our research and development projects.

Dennis holds a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Loyola University, and both a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from the Claremont Graduate School.

Amy Birney, MPH, CHES
Amy Birney is a behavioral scientist and Science Director at ORCAS

Amy Birney joined ORCAS in 2008 with a specialty in using interactive technologies to help patients with chronic illness make effective management and treatment decisions. Her passion lies in optimizing evidence-based health behavior change processes for web and mobile solutions. Amy’s work continues to motivate lifestyle change in the areas of self-management of mild to moderate depression, reversing risk of hypertension, preventing and managing chronic disease, preparing parents and caregiver self-care. She is a master certified health education specialist (MCHES).
